A dry week across most of North America made for a difficult Mid-November powder hunt.
Save for central Colorado, most ski bums in the western USA are foaming at the mouth for a change in conditions and more terrain offerings. Skiers and riders on the East Coast on the other hand were pumped to see a multitude of resort openings this past weekend, along with a well-timed blast of fresh snow.
Stowe Mountain Resort saw an impressive accumulation through Winter Storm Avery totaling 17″ of fresh snow!
Opening weekend at Stowe this year offered early season riders two open chair lifts, with 24 trails (*25 as of today), ranging from beginner to intermediate and expert. Those skiers and riders fortunate to skip work and make Friday’s opening day, even got a shot at some early season powder.
Little snow is forecasted for the North East over the next week, but persistent cold temperatures will aid snow making efforts. Predictions for snowfall this winter across the East Coast are mixed, with scientists still largely anticipating an El Nino cycle.
“Please be advised that for the safety of our general public, guests and employees, uphill access will not be permitted during the early season due to mountain operations and snowmaking work taking place at the resort. Stowe Mountain Resort will open for uphill access when early season operations are complete, and when the resort has adequate terrain to safely permit these activities.”

Heading into another week of the early ski season, West Coast skiers and riders should be getting excited. Fire ridden California is set to receive some respectable snowfall, up to 2 feet in certain areas, a welcome change to the dry pattern recently. Fresh snow will help welcome the openings of Kirkwood, CA on 11/21 and Bear Mountain, CA 11/23. Ski season is well underway, make sure to get out there!
