Professional skier Bryce Newcomb has passed away nearly 3 months after suffering a traumatic brain injury outside of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.
On March 27th, while ascending Cody Peak outside of Jackson Hole, a cornice he was standing on gave way. He fell down a large cliff face and tumbled roughly 1000’ vertical feet. Bryce suffered a severe head injury and was subsequently Life Flighted to the East Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.
Last week Bryce’s brother shared the following message on social media,
“This is not the update I want to share but one that I must. Bryce’s status has taken a turn for the worst in rehab and he was admitted to the ER last Wednesday. There they took an MRI, a CT scan, and administered an EEG report, all of which indicate that he is beyond medicinal care. Doctors have removed his feeding and water tubes, and we are considering moving him to hospice.”
Bryce will be deeply missed by the entire ski community. Out thoughts are with the Newcomb family during this very difficult time.
