OSHA is doling out a $64,673 fine to Loveland Ski Area for not taking 13 “serious” safety precautions that could have prevented the death of former employee, Adam Lee reports The Denver Channel.

The OSHA fine and report were issued on May 3rd. Since then, some employees have spoken out against Loveland Ski Area, saying that the ski area doesn’t prioritize its employees’ safety as they should.

In the case of Adam Lee, who died while working on a ‘magic carpet’ conveyor belt, best practice dictates that operators must shut down the entire lift before attempting to perform maintenance. Lee was ultimately killed in crawl space beneath the running conveyor belt.

“Loveland Ski Area is examining and assessing the findings received this week from OSHA.   Upon completion of our assessment of the findings we will timely and appropriately respond to OSHA. We continue to mourn the death of Adam Lee and extend our thoughts to his widow, children, family, and friends.” – Loveland Ski Area Statement

Other Loveland employees told the Denver Channel’s Contact7 investigative reporting group that fixing the lift during operation was something that happened fairly often prior to the accident. Loveland Ski Area has until the end of the month to appeal the fines.
