“The beauty of committing to simply placing one foot in front of the other is that you at least give yourself the opportunity to come out the other side of the pain and the doubt and the challenge.”

Hats off to Mike Foote for this grueling feet of endurance and pain management he pulled off up at Whitefish the day after St. Patrick’s Day, setting a new world record:

“In a test of human endurance, Mike Foote set out to achieve the world record for the most vertical feet climbed and skied in a single 24-hour period. On March 18, 2018, Mike surpassed the previous record by 1,170ft, setting a new record of 61,170ft. He accomplished his goal by lapping a 1500 foot ski run at Whitefish Mountain Resort 60 times in 23 hours and 53 minutes.”

If you ever feel a complaint about ski boot discomfort coming to the surface, swallow it down deep and remember Mike Foote’s feets after 61K of skiing:

Here’s what Mike had to say about his record breaking effort:

“It’s important to mention it wasn’t all 🌈 and 🦄 this weekend. From battered feet, to bulletproof icy conditions, to a strong cold headwind in the middle of the night, to erratic training in recent weeks, I lad a long list of excuses lined up and ready before I even got to the start line of my record attempt. There’s a million reasons why you can’t do something, which makes it tough to remember the few reasons why you can. Even the first 5,000 ft of my day felt ROUGH. But, the beauty of committing to simply placing one foot in front of the other is that you at least give yourself the opportunity to come out the other side of the pain and the doubt and the challenge. That’s a lesson I’ve learned over an over when running 100 miles and was reminded of yet again this last weekend. Also, the beauty of being out for so long is the chance to experience the highest highs and lowest lows all in a single outing, so why not stick it out and get your moneys worth!”
