A professional skier remains in critical condition after a cornice gave way under his own weight while atop Cody Peak just outside the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort boundary.

The skier fell roughly 1,000′ feet down a rocky, exposed area between Four Shadows and No Shadows couloirs before coming to a full stop. JHMR ski patrol were promptly notified of the accident.

Ski patrol reached the victim at 10:58am. Upon arriving on the scene, they called Teton County Search and Rescue for assistance with a short-haul helicopter evacuation. After successfully extracting the victim, S&R personnel transported Newcomb to the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls where he remains in critical condition.

*Our warmest wishes are going out to Bryce and his family during this extremely trying time.
