Strong southerly winds last week transported clouds of dust all the way from Africa to Russia, leaving the slopes of Krasna Polyana covered in sand from the Sahara.

The otherworldly phenomenon is lighting up Instagram profiles across Europe and the photos are astonishing. What’s perhaps more surprising is the fact that so many people are continuing to ski the resort. The phenomenon is actually not uncommon this time of year, however the sand deposits are not usually this pronounced.
