When winter decides to show up late in the high mountains of Colorado, businesses suffer. And with a snowpack that’s measuring 60% of normal for this time of year according to the USDA/NRCS, things are still pretty depressing.

A recent article published by Ski-Hi News relayed information from Colorado Ski Country that says its participating members (all the ski areas in Colorado except for Vail Resorts) experienced a 13% decrease in # of skier visits compared to the previous season.
An extended “Indian Summer” put a big damper on early season skiing in the Colorado Rockies, with most resorts struggling to open by Thanksgiving Day. Some resorts were even forced to wait until the Christmas Holiday to open their doors to the public. Still, ski resorts are hoping for lengthy storm systems to arrive during the months of February and March– two of the snowiest months of the calendar year.
