This week we’re introducing a new series that highlights the best places to ski around the world on any given week. Titled, ‘The Unofficial Lookout,’ we want to give a comprehensive view on where to ski this weekend and why. From concerts and beer festivals to deep powder and big lines, these 5 ski areas have it going on come Friday.

Across the pond, look for the French/Austrian Alps to grab big time snowfall while the PNW and northern rockies grab the goods stateside. Party on Garth…

5) St Anton am Arlberg, AUS

What’s better than skiing pow during the day before checking out circus style formation skiing by nightfall? That’s a hard one but I think the answer we’re looking for is– “nothing!”

4) Schweitzer, ID

Schweitzer has been in the flow all season long and that trend continues this weekend as one of the northernmost US ski areas nabs a bunch more snow. A Winter Storm Watch is currently in effect and if you’re prioritizing powder this new year’s– look no further.

3) Mt Baker, WA

Mt Baker is getting it again, albeit a little warm to start off the weekend. Look for that to change by Sunday as colder temps and a copoius snowfall heals. If you’re looking to get introverted this New Year’s– here’s your spot. Or you could head to Bellingham after skiing…

Forecasted Snowfall: 20″

Aprés: Heather meadows parking lot

Event: Aslan Brewing New Years Eve

2) Jackson Hole, WY

Jackson locals go big on New Year’s Eve and there’s a couple places to go this year after harvesting faceshots all day. Either choose between tickets at The Rose for The Crystal Method or stay out in the village and go to the Moose for Uncle Stack and the Attack.

1) Chamonix, FRA

When it comes to spending this NYE, you can’t do better than living it up in Chamonix, FRA. The home of extreme skiing has seen its best early season in at least a decade and with bars that don’t close till sunrise– it’s hard to go wrong if you’re living in or within a 3 hour drive of Cham.

Honorable Mention: Mount Bohemia [Look out for big time Lake Effect snow through the New Year + we hear their hot tub gets lit on NYE]
