A trio of mountaineers perished sometime this past week in an avalanche while ascending one of Peru’s highest peaks Reuters is reporting.

According to their article, Two Chileans and one man with dual US/Russia citizenship were climbing the 19K+ foot Piramide de Garcilaso in Peru’s Cordillera Blanca mountain range when an avalanche struck. After the party failed to show up on their scheduled return date, family members notified authorities who would then launch a mission to find the missing climbers.

Search and rescue personnel discovered the three men’s bodies on the mountain this past Tuesday. The Chileans have since been identified as Gabriel Navarrete and Cristóbal Bizzarri. The US/Russian national has yet to be named. They were not accompanied by a guide on their climb.
