This incredible footage of a mother elk swiping at a black bear to protect her calf comes to us from East Pocket, Arizona otherwise known as “The End of the World.” Shannon Seville of Flagstaff posted the video and had this to say when she spoke with AZ Central:

“We did not want interfere, as that’s how we were raised. We see elk every day and a bear sighting is few and far between; to encounter them together was an amazing rarity. It’s important to respect nature.”

We appreciate the share and her understanding of the importance of not interfering with wildlife no matter the outcome. Thankfully for the calf, momma elk was on guard and able to fend off the attack with a swift front hoof to the body.
