A family rafting trip down the Escalante River in Utah turned into a wilderness survival situation for this group from Colorado after severe weather made the river unnavigable. Swift currents kicked up and their boats became trapped under boulders. The family decided to ditch their boats and hike to safety with their dog. They credit their rescue to their faith and believe the helicopter showing up when it did was a profound and obvious example of an “answer prayer.” Glad these folks made it to safety and hope they are better prepared for all contingencies next time they head out into the backcountry.
