“My balance is pretty good. I have been skiing without poles for about 10 years. Been coming here every Monday, put on the fast skies, tuck my arms in.”

60 year old Arapahoe Basin local Jay DeBaggis is looking to set the world speed record for skiing in a straitjacket, which might seem like a whacky joke but we assure you it is very real and in fact he’s doing it for a worthy cause.

DeBaggis is making his record attempt  to raise money and awareness for the Summit County Mountain Mentors program and wants to catch the eye of Ellen DeGeneres so he can go on her show and talk up the program.

“It’s a local big brothers, big sisters program. There’s 50 kids on the waiting list, so we want to get some adults involved, spend some time with kids in Summit County.”

DeBaggis is going for the record on April 3 at Arapahoe Basin. To contribute to the Summit County Mountain Mentors program go HERE
