Burton Snowboard’s Riglet School program is bringing shredding to gym class with their specially designed equipment  to teach elementary school-aged children snowboard basics without the need for snow. Northjersey.com is reporting that Burton’s Hover Cover encourages activities that work on basic sports skills, such as balance, core strength, flexibility and teamwork. Burton describes the Hover Cover like this:

“This felt cover for 90cm and smaller kid’s snowboards creates an easy sliding experience on any smooth surface, such as hardwood floors or a gymnasium, giving kids a safe and fun introduction to sliding sideways.”

Burton Snowboard’s VP of global sports Jeff Boliba had this to say about the product and program: “We found that PE teachers were looking for lifetime sports that can be played beyond high school. We try to inspire our partner resorts to work with the community, connecting with parents, teachers and kids. We have a full curriculum manual and videos to educate teachers on how this works and how to use it.”

If you know an early childhood educator that might interested in spreading the shred, please forward this article onto them. Here’s how a day’s lesson plan might look:
