Snow scientists from the Federal Research Institute WSL in Switzerland set off this massive slide in Vallee de la Sionne, near Sion in Switzerland to gather data using seismic sensors and video. It was triggered by explosives thrown from a helicopter on March 8th. It was the largest avalanche in the test ground in 11 years and flowed for 2.5km to the valley floor.
