Investigations are underway at Granby Ski Ranch, about 90 miles north of Denver, after a San Antonio, Texas woman (40) fell to her death from a chairlift at the family oriented resort. The woman’s identity has not been released.

Her two daughters her daughters, ages 9 and 12, also fell from the lift but survived and were rushed to the hospital.The 12-year-old child was released from the hospital; the 9-year-old remained hospitalized.

Grand County officials say the lift was halfway up the slope when the family fell about 25 feet at Ski Granby Ranch on Thursday morning according to www.news4sanantonio.com. Investigators are currently speaking with ski patrols, lift operators and skiers who witnessed the accident.

The lift will remain closed until it is found to be safe for public operation. This is the first fatal chairlift fall in Colorado in 14 years. According to The National Ski Areas Association there have been 12 deaths from chairlift malfunctions since 1973 and three deaths from falls since 2004.
