After a huge week of snowfall, the alps just had their first real powder days of the season.

So far, unofficial reports indicate that the higher flanks of the Chamonix valley have upwards of a 30″ snow that is currently sitting atop glaciated ice, faceted snow, or best case scenario– bare ground. These observations should serve as a significant reminder to take care when travelling in avalanche terrain during the early season months.
