A 41-year-old man died this morning in Little Cottonwood Canyon after a backhoe he was operating rolled down a mountainside near Alta Ski Area.

The man was a contract worker for the Utah Department of Transportation who was working with a crew to install avalanche-control equipment in LCC.

According to Unified police, the man suffered fatal injuries after being ejected from the machine.

Unified police are investigating the incident.
