While Powder Mountain is not known for its plush amenities, the ski area located just outside Eden, UT is a soul skiers paradise that boasts good terrain, soulful locals, and tons of its namesake snow.

The one downside– its lack of chairlift infrastructure.

According to The Standard Examiner, Powder Mountain officials are trying to change that perception as they propose two new lifts that would offer skiers easier access to various parts of their already rad mountain. The two new lifts, named Mary’s Lift and Village Lift, would access Mary’s Bowl and Lefty’s Canyon in what many skiers believe to be the necessary next step for the ski area. As of now, both areas are only accessible through guided tours/catskiing trips.

Powder Mountain officials are hoping the two new lifts will be complete in time for this upcoming ski season.

Whether or not that’s a real possibility depends on how Weber County receives the proposal. So far, the main concern is focused on Mary’s Lift, which some believe will direct skiers dangerously close to the already stressed Middle Fork Wildlife Management Area. The management area serves as a winter range for deer and elk.

In an interview with The Standard Examiner, Summit Collective COO, Dan Weberlow addressed those concerns saying, “We’re going to make sure because we are in a protected area that we keep everything clearly marked and patrolled so people aren’t abusing that.” In the meantime, crews have already begun clear cutting forest to make way for the new lifts. Whether or not that work is in vain– we’ll just have to wait and see.
