According to the Denver Post, officials representing the White River National Forest released their last environmental assessment of Arapahoe Basin’s plan expand and renovate the popular front range ski resort. The environmental review largely approves the expansion, which includes installing a new fixed grip chairlift, replacing two old chairlifts, and adding 388 more acres. If approved, the resort would boast a whopping 1,348 acres of skiable terrain. Also included in the plan is a zipline and ropes course for summer guests.
Proposed Improvements:
- Add Beavers and Steep Gullies to Arapahoe Basin’s operational boundary
- New lift to access Montezuma Bowl (Fixed-Grip)
- Replace Pallavicini and Molly Hogan lifts
- Remove Norway Lift
- New zipline/ropes course for summer operations
The added acreage would offer skiers unprecedented access to zones known by locals as Beavers and Steep Gullies. Resort officials hope that by adding the terrain, they will be able to properly mitigate avalanche risk in a zone that has claimed 6 lives since 1982.
