The body of 24 year old Colorado Springs resident, Ryan Wood Moss, was recovered at the base of a cliff in Black Canyon in Gunnison National Park in Colorado on Tuesday.

The body was found Monday but couldn’t be accessed until Tuesday when a Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control helicopter helped with the recovery. Locating the body was aided by cellphone pings.

Moss had a wilderness permit to hike the Warner Route and planned to return Saturday. His family became concerned when he did not return at his designated time and altered park authorities Saturday afternoon.

The autopsy from the Montrose County Coroner’s Office is pending but the National Park Service spoke with The Montrose Press and stated “It appears as though the man fell, though an investigation is under way to try to determine the events leading up to the possible fall.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with Ryan’s friends and families.
