Mountain biking icon and former world cup champion, Stevie Smith is dead after suffering a traumatic brain injury in a enduro motorcycle accident reports Pinkbike.com.

Smith was riding near his home of Nanaimo, British Columbia when the accident occurred. Smith was just 26 years old.

Growing up on Vancouver island, Stevie honed his skills (with the help of his mom shuttling) on the famed downhill tracks of coastal British Columbia. In 2013, Smith reached global fame after winning three World Cup downhill events, which ultimately led to Smith pulling down the overall title.

The biking community and his family will remember Stevie as a fierce competitor, loving individual, and bright role model. A memorial is set to honor Stevie on May 21st at the Vancouver Island Convention Centre. In the meantime, his family has set up a GoFundMe page to give direction to other young athletes growing into their talents.
