A snowshoer reported finding a possible human jawbone Wednesday approximately one mile northeast of U.S. Highway 191 inside the boundary of Yellowstone National Park according to The Bozeman Daily Chronicle.
Searchers went to the site Thursday with dogs and found more evidence of human remains and clothing items. The remains were spread out over a large area, leading investigators to believe the bones were moved around by animals.
The remains were brought to the Gallatin Country Coroner’s Office. Authorities believe they have identified the body but have not released a name yet. No other details can be confirmed.
