With only 297 of their annual 400 inches, the resort is closing its doors to the public early on August 2nd.

Normally Timberline ski area remains open to the public through Labor Day Weekend but this year the Palmer Snowfield is lacking the snow required to provide “a great product” to the skiing public.

“The last time Timberline had an abbreviated summer ski season was in 2005, when skiing went until August 18th.”- Timberline Press Release

Reports via Instagram showed a depleted snowpack that required hiking in and out of features on the glacier, which on a normal year are easily accessed on skis.

Normally, The Pacific Northwest tends to receive monstrous late season storms coming off the Pacific but this year—the snow never fell.

However, at Mt. Hood there are always plenty of activities to go around.

“There is still lots to do at Timberline this summer, with hiking, biking, fine dining, and tours of the historic lodge just a few of the options. Beginning Monday August 3rd, the Magic Mile chairlift will operate offering sky rides for foot passengers from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily through Labor Day, September 7th. Timberline’s annual free Mountain Music Festival held each Labor Day in the outdoor amphitheater will feature touring musicians John Lilly, Liz Longley, Darlingside, and veteran folk rocker Jonathan Edwards”- Timberline Press Release
