When it comes to lodging in ski towns, the term ‘affordable’ is extremely rare. So in order to give our lower income readers a glimpse into what is actually economically viable when it comes to a night’s rest, we’ve compiled a list of our favorite ski bum hotels.
5. The Hostel X– Teton Village, WY
The oldest remaining building in Teton Village, the Hostel X remains a landmark for ski bums across the country. The initial home to Benny “The Captain” Wilson, The Hostel X is full of ski bum lore. The vibe is as earthy as it gets with ping-pong tables, foosball, and ski lockers in the basement not to mention a makeshift kitchen for every bum’s PB&J needs.

4. The Stowehof Inn– Stowe, VT
In the past 10 years, Stowe has gotten a reputation as the Aspen of the Northeast. However, the Grimes family has sought to preserve the old building (built in 1949) from corporate prices. The Result? The historic Stowehof Inn provides ski bums with a night’s stay that can go as low as $89 bucks that includes a $20 dining credit. Also, the lodge itself is only 5 minutes from the base of Stowe.

3. The Bivvi Hostel– Breckenridge, CO
The Bivvi is the new school version of the Hostel X. However, the folks at the Bivvi have taken the communal living thing to a whole new level. Every morning a complimentary breakfast awaits eager skiers as well as three beer taps when they kick their boots off. Not to mention a sweet hot tub and awesome owners make the Bivvi a model for ski bum lodging across the country.

2. The Teller House– Silverton, CO
Silverton is out of the way to say the least. Once nothing more than a high elevation mining town and summer attraction, skiing in and around Silverton has become a staple of the North American extreme skiing scene for the past decade. So when making the pilgrimage, stay at the historic and reasonably priced Teller House in downtown Silverton.

1. The Peruvian Lodge– Alta, UT
The ultimate in ski bum lodging, the Peruvian or P-Dog stands above all the rest in terms of ski bum accommodation. Rooms are cheap, breakfast is off the charts, and a communal hot tub that gets wild on weekdays makes the Peruvian a worthwhile expense for any ski bum chasing Pow in Little Cottonwood Canyon.
