Six Climbers on Mount Rainier Believed to be Dead

By

Ascending to 14,410 feet above sea level, Mount Rainier stands as an icon in the Washington landscape. An active volcano, Mount Rainier is the most glaciated peak in the contiguous U.S.A., spawning six major rivers.

Six climbers on Mount Rainier likely fell thousands of feet to their deaths in what would be among the worst alpine accidents ever in the contiguous U.S.A.

“There is no viable way they could have survived,” said Mount Rainier National Park spokeswoman Patricia Wold.
