A skier has been rescued after he fell more than 1,000 feet down one of Colorado’s fourteeners outside of Telluride. According to the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office, the man was reportedly skiing the north-facing couloir on Wilson Peak with two others when he fell.

Sheriff Bill Masters said the skier was on a steep slope at about 12,500 feet when the incident occurred.

Two helicopters were brought in from Olathe and Moab to assist in the rescue.

The skier was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction with serious injuries.
