New Study Finds That Watching This Clip May Make You More Likely To Believe in God. Seriously....

By

A new study published in the journal Psychological Science finds that humans who watched video of natural phenomenon—like the aurora borealis or stunning landscapes like the Grand Canyon—may be more likely to believe in God.

The researches had one group of participants watch scenes from Planet Earth, the epic nature documentaries by the BBC. The other group were exposed to news clips. They found that the group who watched Planet Earth were more inclined to believe that there is a supernatural element controlling the world.

According to psychological scientist Piercarlo Valdesolo—one of the authors of the study— “the irony in this is that gazing upon things that we know to be formed by natural causes, such as the jaw-dropping expanse of the Grand Canyon, pushes us to explain them as the product of supernatural causes.” Valdesolo goes on to state that “Many historical accounts of religious epiphanies and revelations seem to involve the experience of being awe-struck by the beauty, strength or size of a divine being, and these experiences change the way people understand and think about the world,”
