Okemo ski resort is investing nearly $1 million into expanding their snowmaking system in what is being dubbed “Operation Snowburst”. “Operation Snowburst” will include the purchase of 225 HKD SV tower guns and significant upgrades to pumps and pipeline. The new state-of-the-art equipment will allow the southern Vermont ski resort to open more terrain during early season, build a thicker base during the season and recover faster in the event of bad weather.
With the new investment, Okemo will soon have 1,025 tower guns + 320 snowmaking guns of varying types. This will increase the resorts snowmaking capacity from 2,000 gallons of water per minute to 7,000 to 9,000 gallons of water per minute
“With the efficiencies these snow guns provide, we will maximize our potential, and with ideal snowmaking temperatures we should be pumping 7,000 to 9,000 gallons of water per minute on day one. This puts us in a position to provide our guests with a better skiing and riding experience early in the season and throughout the winter.” said Okemo Mountain Resort Snowmaking Manager Ray Kennedy.
