The Dutch royal house has said that Prince Johan Friso, the youngest brother of King Willem-Alexander, has died. 18 months ago the Prince was buried in an avalanche at the Austrian ski resort Lech.
Johan was buried for 20 minutes under avalanche debris causing oxygen deprivation. Severe brain damage and an hour of cardiac arrest were the unfortunate consequences of that burial.
In a statement, the royal house said that the 44-year-old Friso had never regained more than “minimal consciousness” after the accident, in which he was buried by an avalanche. He died Monday at the Palace Huis ten Bosch, where he was being cared for.
