Two Spanish skiers are in a French court this week to decide whether they will face jail time for allegedly setting off an avalanche in the French Pyrenees that buried a group of 13-year-old children.

Authorities claim that the two backcountry skiers ducked under a rope to ski a well known off piste run at the ski resort of Peyragudes. During their descent the two men triggered a slide that then crossed an open blue run and engulfed three children in a school group.

The men face a 6-month jail sentence with 5 suspended meaning that the two could face as much as a month behind bars.

The court will release its judgement on May 14th.
