EPIC ALERT NORTHEAST POW! – powderchasers.com
This will be our first “EPIC ALERT” issued for the Northeast as 2 feet or more will be likely over southern New England by late Saturday! Models show moderate snow in Upstate New York and Northern Vermont by Friday afternoon (Storm #1) with the strongest dynamics slamming into Boston, Providence (Storm #2) by Friday evening. This energy will swing through Southern NH, VT, MA, and ME with the heaviest dumpage expected on Saturday. Expect the heaviest amounts to be in the southern mountains (Okemo, Mount Snow, Gunstock, Sunday River with storm skiing all day Saturday (11-15) and refills for Sunday (3-7). The northern mountains of Vermont and Maine will also see snow with totals in the 9-11 inch range. Areas near Boston like Nashoba Valley could see 20 inches by late Saturday and good luck finding the vertical to ride it! The Berkshires will also do well with this storm on Friday afternoon and Saturday (11-14).
NORTHWEST-ROCKIES-SIERRA BLENDED SUMMARY POWDER ALERT
i am on the chase in the Cascades so here is an abbreviated look at what will happen in the next 3 days. The Northwest who saw up to 14 inches in the North Cascades (Mount Baker Wins again followed by Stevens Pass) will see storm #2 after midnight tonight and continuing through Thursday afternoon. Amounts will be in the 9-14 inch range near Baker, 7-11 near Stevens Passand 4-8 near Crystal. Interior Idaho near Spokane will see 4-8. Temps will be colder so densities lighter! The low pressure skirts due south along the coast into Oregon (We see heavy amounts over Ashland) before skimming the Sierra on Thursday night (4-8). Central Nevada (Ruby Mountains) near Elko see heavy snow early Friday before hitting the Wasatch by late AM. Check out http://www.helicopterskiing.com/ The Wasatch will see intermittent snow through Monday with the heaviest amounts late Friday night into Saturday. The winds shift several times making amounts tricky (Southerly Friday, Easterly Friday night, and veer North on Saturday). My best guess is that Sundance might reap the rewards however all mountains along the Wasatch front will pick up 9-14 inches by Sunday afternoon. Easterly flow will bring heavy snow to the Vernal area and the Colorado border. Colorado Mountains will be a tricky forecast with the wind shifts. Expect moderate to heavy snow on Saturday morning in the 4 corners (AZ- Light to moderate, NM- Light, Durango-Moderate, Silverton and North-Heavy snow). This will migrate to the central and northern mountains Saturday afternoon (I-70) and continue through Sunday. Aspen looks to my pick for Saturday PM or Sunday? Crested Butte, Telluride, and Silvertonmight fare well early with Southerly winds on Saturday. Sunday will see a distinct shift of winds to the North or Northwest bringing better snow to the Front Range especially Winter Park, Eldora, Summit County and Loveland. These areas might be refilled for Monday AM. Fort Collins looks to do well as the storm heads out to Nebraska by Monday afternoon. My confidence is less than normal on amounts (Generally 8-16) due to the many wind shifts and timing. I can say that Wolf Creek who normally does well with 4 corners storms might not fare as welll as the northern San Juan’s.
