NOAA is reporting that a record low temperature of -14 degrees was set at South Lake Tahoe, CA today. This breaks the old record of -6 in 2007. But South Lake Tahoe is not the only place setting record low temperatures this week. Yesterday, the town of Ramona in eastern San Diego County recorded a low of 23 degrees, breaking the 24 degrees set in 2007.

This is a far cry from the lowest natural temperature ever recorded at the surface of the Earth, −89.2 °C (−128.6 °F) which was set at the Soviet Vostok Station in Antarctica, on July 21, 1983.
