Emily “Mimi” Watts, a 26-year-old British snowboarder, has died from her injuries sustained in an accident on opening day at Les Grand Montets in Chamonix, France. The experienced snowboarder was found unconscious and in cardiac arrest near the top of the Pierre a Ric run. Reports say that she had been buried in a 27 inch deep snow drift for an estimated 45 minutes.

Watts’ was discovered by a British skier who had observed a single snowboard track heading off the groomed slope into a steep embankment. Rescue personal were called to the scene and assisted in transporting Watts’ to a French hospital where she passed away yesterday.

Our thoughts go out to Mimi’s friends and loved ones.
