HEADS UP!!!! Tahoe’s SnowPack has a DEEP SCARY Layer | 2 Video Snowpack Analyses from March 7th

This video is from the boys at Alpenglow Sports in Tahoe City, CA from today, March 7th, 2012.  The test performed is a propagation saw test done at 8,000 feet on Rubicon Peak.  They also performed an Extended Column Test and got a result of ETCH27.  Disclaimer:  this is not a professional test, but is merely to illustrate a persistent weak layer in our normally bomber Tahoe snowpack.

The Tahoe snowpack is icy and hard right now…and still dangerous as hell.  Despite the hard conditions a persistent weak layer continues to exist and the backcountry is still sketchy.  The persistent weak layer is DEEP and the slab sliding on it is STRONG.  Bad combo.  Watch these videos and LEARN about our current snowpack.  I’m scared shitless, you should be, too.
