Let’s start at the beginning. It was 6:am Thursday morning and my alarm sang either Ke$ha or Rihanna (I can’t remember it alternates between the two). Team Unofficial was up and ready for the 1.5 hour drive through the winding roads of Middle Earth (Mount Baker Highway) We arrived at 8:30am, got tickets and we’re on the lift by 9am,  ready to shred the pow. Moving on … the light went from okay to fog then back to okay. The snowpack however went from ok to funky. We skied sidecountry laps being careful because our snow pit produced disconcerting results. Around noon o’clock we met up with Pete who’s our Baker Ski Patrol Friend. Pete showed us some “local goods” but after some quick runs slashing, slicing, cutting and dicing the pow he had to go back to work. The shred was still alive with the sound of pow so we lapped on.

I read the news on twitter and my stomach dropped, the chills took over my body and I had to sit down. Sarah, a friend and summer-camp coach of mine since I was a kid had died.

With the weight of the news we were in shock, stunned, not moving (and we were standing in a dangerous terrain trap), confused, we decided on one more run. None of us skied the same that run. I filmed while Charlie and Miles both fell in a no fall zone. Thankfully they made it sorta okay just banged up.

It’s been dumping in Whistler for the last three days and we know it’s Sarah sharing the love from a pow filled heaven.

SHRED FOR SARAH
