Today started with a little sun, became overcast, and eventually started to snow; as the next low pressure system moves in. Hopefully there will be some significant accumulation tonight, although it is not snowing at the moment. It was a good day to play around in the more interesting lines at tree line, which were providing better visibility and quality snow.
Today was the most crowded the Happo backcountry has been all season. Unfortunately, many of the added backcountry skiers seemed inexperienced and lost out there. I saw a number of skiers getting stuck in terrain they couldn’t handle, and a couple of groups with no backpacks. Expect things to get even worse as the weekend gets underway.
