This is video of a skier who was trapped in an avalanche that he set loose while skiing in Verbier, Switzerland. The footage is from Feb. 28th 2011 but it’s making the rounds on the internet right now so here you go.

According to the skier:

His friends spotted and excavated him within five minutes even though he was buried at a depth of between 1.5-2 meters. Luckily he was wearing the right equipment and managed to create an air pocket in front of his mouth by holding his hands in front of his face when the avalanche stopped moving.

Here’s a comment that was posted on youtube today by the skier in the video about the specific location of the incident: he also makes a valid point about the current global snow distribution:

“When you take the moguls down from Lac de Vaux to Vallon D´ Arbi, look up to your left. We skied from the top and I was buried just above the hollow. Heard they got about a meter of snow the last couple of days, assholes!”
