Get ready to feel good. You have to read this story first though for the good feeling to be had. I guess that’s why they call it a feel good story. Monique van der Vorst had been paralyzed from the hip down since she was 13-years-old, but after an accident in 2010 Monique regained the use of her legs.
Monique was a two time silver medalist in handcycling at the Beijing Paralympics and in 2010, after an accident in which she fell out of her wheelchair and spent a long period in the hospital, Monique began to feel her paralyzed legs tingle and eventually spent months re-learning how to use her legs again.
She said she felt like a child learning to walk.
Monique now has here sights set on becoming an Olympic triathlete; but without the wheelchair this time. Look out for Monique in 2016 and beyond.
