New Rules: before Pole Whacking there must be Weed Whacking.
After skiing Squaw this week, I must admit, that credo is true. There really isn’t much pole whacking going on at Squaw, but the weed whacking has reached epic proportions. This guy has literally weed whacked every plant with the audacity to reach skyward on Red Dog face. He did a great job and once the snow come, no pesky branchs will be available to hang up on our skis.
I saw a bald eagle maching right over the top of Red Dog today. I’m hoping it’s a good omen.
The most exciting thing right now is that they’re blowing snow on the Squaw Creek run. ’Twould be great if they could get that open this weekend…
CONDITIONS at SQUAW right now:
– Icy, Windy, & Fun
– Red Dog = Icy, grippy, man-made snow white stripe of death
– Searchlight = Icy, grippy, man-made white rectangle of death
– Today = SUPER windy and cold with a high of only 26F
It’s actually pretty fun, tho. Despite it being funky, the Red Dog gives you enough skiing to make a few turns, go fast, do some tucking, and the bottom face is long enough to get into a rhythm. Bottom line = when was the last time you skied? Skiing is fun, it turns out.
Get out early this weekend. Once the moguls start to form (usually around 1-2pm), the fun starts to deform.
WHAT’S OPEN at SQUAW right now:
– Red Dog (one groomer: Champ Elysees)
– Searchlight (to mid-station)
– Mini-Park (coupla boxes and rails)
