Have you ever ridden a pump track? A pump track is a sculpted dirt mountain bike course that is built to rally around without pedaling. It’s reminiscent of a BMX track only the features are spaced tighter together. The rounded, tightly spaced terrain features allow you to “pump” the down transitions and keep up your speed as you fly around the berms and boost the jumps.

Check out the above video of Aussie pro rider Mick Hannah tearing up his backyard track. Riding a pump track is ridiculous fun and an amazing place to work on your bike handling skills. Rally a couple dozen laps and your legs and lungs will be ready to explode. Pumping is a full body buzz as usual!

A group of motivated North Tahoe MTB rippers known as the Truckee Pump Track Project have made an organized effort to build a pump track at the Riverview Sports Park in Truckee. The project got the approval of the Truckee Rec and Park District this summer so the group has begun fundraising to build the track next spring.

If you’d like to see one one of these ripping tracks built at the Riverview Park come down to the Cottonwood Restaurant in Truckee this Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 7 pm for the Pump Track Projects’ first fundraising event. There will be live music from local band Don’t Forget The Roses, happy hour food prices all night and the raffle will be stacked with prizes from Royal Racing, Deity, WTB, Salomon, Yakima, 5-10, Michelin, Backcountry, Granite Chief and Olympic Bike – including a pair of Salomon Rocker Skis and a Yakima Rocket Box!

No entry charge. Raffle tix are $1 and New Belgium Beers will be $4 including one raffle ticket.

Don’t sleep on the chance to support this local MTB effort. C’mon down to Cottonwood this Wednesday. You know you’re gonna want to ride the track once it’s built sucka! Show some love now and feel good about riding it later…or just come drink up and improve your chances of winning some skis with every beer.
