Women are getting into the ski and snowboard world more and more every year.  2010/11 was a breakout year for women in the snowsports industry, especially in the shopping for ski and snowboard gear category.  The ski/board world is still mostly hairy dudes, but I think we are all happy to hear that the ladies are getting more into it all the time.

Human Females in 2010/11:

(This is all according to a report issued by Snowsports Industry Association on October 11th, 2011.)

-Women control 65% of global spending and more than 80% of U.S. spending (all industries)

– Women spent $941 million on snowsports gear that was made specifically for women

– 68% of their spending was on alpine ski equipment

– Female specific K2 Tru Luv was the best selling ski  in the industry

– Women’s alpine touring boot sales were up 214% 

– Snowshoeing has the most female participants of all snowsports at 46%

– Women prefer to shop at specialty shops where they can get advice
