On Top of The Hood drops September 19th (for FREE online!) pretty cool! As an official selection for the IF3 International Freeski Film Festival, taking place this week in Montreal, Nimbus Independent has released a new teaser. Did Nimbus Independent go a little nouvelle vague for IF3 Film Festival?
This trailer presents skier Sammy Carlson in perhaps a Nouvelle Vague or “French New Wave” styled editing approach to ski film. The black and white tones combined with the natural sounds of the skis on snow, and the cow in the background provide us with a latent sense of malaise so characteristic of the Italian Neorealism film genre of post war Europe.
The film trailer also presents a form of self-ironisation as a provocative challenge to the dominant cinematic conventions of ski film. The question of ski film purity raised by the “On Top of The Hood” teaser should be considered in light of the relationship between the underlying ideological values of the film and the cultural context in which it appears. The self-reflexive nature of the piece challenges the present trajectory of ski film art in a fashion consistent with the neo-Bazinian ideal. Bravo!
If you haven’t seen the original trailer for the film check it out! This one looks more like a SKI film and less like a ski FILM. I like both. This looks like it’s gonna be sick!
