There are a lot of songs out there that I will automatically go to when preparing to go out for a rowdy day or night of drinking. Metallica’s cover of “Whiskey In A Jar” , “Today Was A Good Day” by Ice Cube, “Eminence Front” by The Who, or “Can’t You Hear Me Knockin” by the Stones. There’s plenty more believe me. But one that probably gets the most plays in my living room since the time I first heard the song the summer after my freshman year of college is easliy “Booze Me Up And Get Me High” by Ween.
Probably the best rock band on the planet today, Ween has evolved from a lo-fi, alt-punk, DAT driven, shit-in-your-face, goof duo to a high octane yet melodic, heavy shredding power group known to play everything from soft and sweet country ballads to mosh-pit fueled punk. Founded by guitarist/singer Aaron Freemen (Gene Ween) and lead guitarist Mickey Melchiondo (Dean Ween) in New Hope, PA, Ween have become a household name to degenerates, low-lifes, frat boys, crunchy hippies, and discriminate music heads everywhere and have done so more than successfully.
Gener and Deaner aren’t for everybody, that’s for sure. But if you can appreciate the browner things in life than I guarantee you’ve found your next favorite band. So I’m dedicating this week’s Unofficial Beer post to the Ween opus that is “Booze Me Up And Get Me High”. This video is cut from the Live In Chicago dvd/album that was released in 2004 from a show the group did at the Vic Theater in Chicago in November of 2003. So get charged up tonight boys and girls and throw on some Ween, mang!
But I’m curious…what’s your “lets go get smashed!” anthem??
