Tioga pass, ca

Tioga pass, caTioga Pass being cleared by Cal Trans.

This is huge news.  Our Unofficial backcountry addict, Brennan Lagasse, just gave me a call to let me know that he personally investigated these 3 passes yesterday.  Tioga pass is only open on the east side to the pass. But, that’s all you need.  If you look on the Caltrans site, it’ll say that Tioga is just straight up closed.  It’s open to the pass, tho, which is HUGE!

Tioga (9,943 feet), Ebbets (8,730 feet), and Sonora (9,624 feet) passes hold some of the best, most easily accessible skiing in the Sierra. You can park your car, go ski huge, high elevation lines, and ski right back to your car.

The Sierra Nevada holds the BEST SPRING SKIING ON EARTH.  You literally won’t hear anyone ever contest that, because it’s a fact.  We get so much snow and it comes in wet and it creates ridiculous snowpacks that are matched no where else on Earth.  The terrain is outlandish.  Our high elevations allow the snow to hang out deep into summer and give adventurers the ability to ski good snow into August every year.

Sonora Pass, CA.

These 3 passes are the key to easiest access in the Sierra. To be honest, it really doesn’t get any better than this.  The Central Sierra is above 163% of normal snowpack this year and all the lines are fat right now.  You wanna ski sick lines everyday until August?  These three passes are your ticket.
