spring squaw

Squaw Valley USA has just announced that they will be extending their season from May 8th to May 30st.  After May 8th they will only be open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Obviously, Squaw’s decision to extend the season was based on their record snowfall of 679” so far this season.  (their previous record was 662”).  Just in the past 10 days Squaw got over 170” of snow.  The snow pack is uber-deep and isn’t going anywhere for a while.

There have been a lot of questions and rumors going around about Silverado.  At this point it’s still buried and the road has not been cut to access it.  The supposed last day of planned operation for the season was March 27th.  There is a good chance we’ve seen the last of Silvy this season.

In the 2000’s Squaw was consistently open daily until May 31st with the Cable Car, Granite Chief, Links, and the Mainline chair (with a park) open.  Hopefully we can return to this type of operation procedure soon and I assume those are the chairs we’ll have open after May 8th.

Other great news:  Squaw is building a Spring terrain park under Mainline Pocket like they used to do.  If we are lucky there will be a park, jumps, and rails.

Squaw also has a Spring Pass on sale right now for $199 that gets you skiing from April 4th until the end of the season and if you so desire, you can apply $129 of that to a season pass for next year.

The pool & hot tub at High Camp are scheduled to open up on April 1st. Skiing with your bikini/board shorts under your ski gear and hopping into the tub after a sweaty ski day and sharing your level of radness as well as your funk with locals and tourists alike is a classic Squaw tradition.
