big storm

big storm This radar image was taken today, March 18th, at 4:00pm.  It’s dumping.

There is a truly formidable storm coming our way.  Hell, it’s already here.  The original winter storm warning started at 5pm today, but they bumped it up 5 hours to noon.  Right now in Squaw Valley it’s blowing and snowing like crazy.  I’ve already got 3 inches on my deck and they are calling for 3″/hour for a while this evening.  This storm is forecasted to drop 2 feet above 7000 feet tonite. The winter storm warning goes until 8am tomorrow morning.

The winds are gonna be crazy tonite as well. Squaw already had a 123mph wind gust at 2:15pm today. Right now it’s nuking outside and the stuff is dry.  We are going to have a deep day of blower powder tomorrow.

The forecast tomorrow is for snow showers, a high of 33, wind gusts up to 55mph, and 3 to 5 inches throughout the day. In general, that means sunny and low wind.  We’ll see.  It’s going to be paramount tomorrow that they open the upper mountain or we’re gonna get another Saturday like the dreaded Saturday of February 26th.  To tell you the truth…I have the fear.

UPDATE 5:30PM – 80 Closed in Both Directions.
