The men went off at Snowbird today, on day one of the Subaru Freeskiing World Championships.  An unprecedented 11 competitors had scores of 40 points or more on Silver Fox, the day one venue.  Drew Tabke took the day for the men with a score of 46.10, while Angel Collinson continued her domination of the womens field with a score of 36.30.Spin to win was the theme of the day, as athletes took flight, rotating in every conceivable direction on their way down the mountain.  Today was the first time we’ve seen the new judged category of  “style” incorporated into runs with great consistency, possibly marking the beginning of  a new era in big mountain freeskiing events .  Each of the top 6 men had big tricks thrown somewhere in their line, and many of them more than one.

Tomorrows venue, North Baldy, should provide even more excitement, with more line options, and features for the athletes to take advantage of.  Check out live streaming coverage starting at 10:30 mtn time, on freeskiingworldtour.com
