Well for starters it’s Whistler and Whistler is AWESOME!  It just keeps snowing. Thursday was sooo good! and the weekend will be even better. The recipe for next week= more snow. Also lets think of Japan, I just returned from Japan and they know powder over there. So as we ski deep pow here lets send some good vibes to japan and help them through this disaster.

Friday-Sunday, MAR 11-13 –Kokanee Freeride Apres. Merlins (11th), Dusty’s (12th), GLC (13th). Come and enjoy a Kokanee at the infamous Kokanee après series. Local legends Hairfarmers play as you drink. Sounds good to me… Happening at Merlins March 11, Dusty’s March 12, and the GLC on March 13.

Friday, MAR 11 –Drop in Dodge Ball Whistler Secondary Gym. 8pm. The last game of the season. So just remember the 5 d’s of dodgeball: “dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge”.

Friday, MAR 11 –Murphy’s Laugh. Dubh Linn Gate. Starts at 3:30. Come watch this high energy fiddle and guitar duo Damian Brennan and Shamma Sabir pump out Celtic and maritime drinking songs. So come get drunk.

Friday, MAR 11 –Payday Fridays. Moe Joe’s. Thank God it’s Friday and thank god that you get to spend the night with DJ Praiz. DJ Praiz is really good. Don’t believe me? Okay then ignore that he opened for almost every medal ceremony during that event…oh yeah The Olympics. DJ Praiz will make you feel good, all over. And if you ask he will give you a shout out, maybe even a pro call out.

Saturday, MAR 12- Showcase Progression Session Snowboard Camp. Showcase Snowboards has hand selected the top of Whistler Coaches so you can be sure to progress your park and pipe skills at the one day camp. Must be 19 or older and be ready to push your park and pipe skills.

Saturday, MAR 12- King of the Rail Presented by Showcase. 7-9pm. Head over to the base of Whistler Mountain and watch this event. If you want to compete registration is at Showcase in the village from 6-7pm. Skiers and Snowboarders are both allowed (sharing is caring)… and first place gets cash money.

Saturday, MAR 12 –Jon Shrier. Black’s Pub. 9:30pm. Local singer/Songwriter performs originals and covers favorites in his own unique style. Acoustic rhythm backed by a powerful voice. Show starts at 9:30 and there is no cover. Perfect for unofficial network bums like Jon and Jake.

Saturday, MAR 12 –Arnett Brain Freeze with Del the Funky Homosapien. Garfinkels. Possibly the funkiest homosapien ever comes to Whistler. Del, Bukue One and DJ Matty Mo will be playing. And PRO’s will be in the house, Devun Walsh and Dustin Craven. This means they should get many “Pro Callouts” Check out Del’s website HERE

Sunday, MAR 13 –Park Rider Sessions Presented by Telus. Blackcomb Mountain. 9:45am. Come ride the halfpipe in the Backcomp Terrain Park. This event is open to skiers and snowboarders of all ages. Preregister at Guest Relations. Or register the day of at Rendezvous. OR go ski pow because we are suppose to get 45cm on Sunday! Your choice.

Sunday, MAR 13 –The Sunday Sessions. Brandy’s (The Keg). 10pm. Fresh off a 4 year tour with Cirque Du Soleil, Chad Oliver steps onto the stage to put on an acoustic show that touches on everything and everyone.

Sunday, MAR 13 –Whistler Junglists Prestnes Artifical Intelligence. Tommy Aftica’s. 11pm. See this show with opening sets by D-cision & Phoroh. Tickets are $10

Monday, MAR 14 –The Splinters. Dubh Linn Gate. 3:30 and 8pm. Cam Salay and Shannon Saunders of the Paperboys play bluegrass, Celtic and Maritime tunes, with Shannon on the fiddle and Cam on the guitar and banjo. (banjo… you gota purty mouth)

Monday, MAR 14 –Legendary 80’s Night. Tommy Africa’s. 9pm. DJ Ryder starts the week off as this local’s night, with old school dance jams, hip hop classics and 80’ throwbacks. Don your finest neon spandex attire and join the paty. Dress like this and get in for free.

Tuesday, MAR 15 – Healthy in the Himalays. Community Room, Whistler Public Library. 7pm. Whistler Doctor Ola Dunin Bell will offer tips on staying healthy while in high altitude trekking/climbing. Unnecessary for the coast mountains in my opinion.

Wednesday, MAR 16 –Adventures in Sochi, Russia: Exploring the site of the 2014 Winter Games. Whistler Museum. 7pm.  Visit the Whistler Museum presenting the 2011 Speaker Series taking place the third Wednesday of every month in 2011. This month see, David Malar presenting “Adventures in Sochi, Russia: Exploring the site of the 2014 Winter Games”. Regular admission is $7 or $5 for members and all proceeds raised go toward supporting community initiatives at the museum and preserving Whistler’s stories. Thursday, MAR 17 –Kokanee Valley Race Series Finals. Blackcomb Mountain. The finals are on Blackcomb Mountain. Skiers, snowboarders and telemarkers are welcome. How about the mono-boarder? Anyway, everyone can see their runs on video and might win sweet prizes at the Kokanee après party. Day of registration at Rendezvous.
