The 4FRNT Renegade is one bad ass pair of skis. These boards are the creation of Eric Hjorleifson and are the first skis to come from 4FRNT’s “White Room”, their in-house prototype and R&D facility in Salt Lake City. Most of 4FRNT’s skis are produced in the Elan factory in Slovenia and are very high quality. The Renegades take this to a whole new level with the entire design, construction methods, and materials all conceived by Hjorleifson. Each pair of these skis are completely handmade in SLC by Hjorleifson and Cody Barnhill and the love that went into them shows! These are some of the highest quality skis I have ever seen. Each ski is hand signed by Hjorleifson as well as individually numbered and produced in limited numbers, something like 280 pairs I heard. I think Hoji even did the topsheet art work himself, which I think make these some of the sweetest looking skis out there!

They came in a 186 length for this year, but they will be adding a 196 for the next production run. The dimensions for the 186 are 135 / 122 / 129 and are a full rockered ski with flat camber underfoot. They have a 35m sidecut radius as well as a 35m rocker radius creating a unique shape that transitions from different conditions and turn styles effortlessly. They have a solid Canadian Maple core that spans the entire width of the ski with no additional side wall material. The sidewalls are untreated allowing the wood to absorb water and then dry out which hardens the wood over time. 4FRNT claims they have been testing this construction technique over the last 2 years with amazing results, and have seen greater torsional rigidity, better durability and strength from the sidewalls, and less plastic materials going into the skis, creating less waste. Very eco-friendly! The best part about this construction method is how stiff these skis are! They are amazingly stable, especially when landing drops or jumps.

That video was from my first day on the Renegades, awesome conditions to test them out! They were incredibly playful, yet very powerful at the same time. I was amazed at how fast they were in deep snow and how effortlessly they changed direction and floated. These are some of the most rewarding skis I have been on and definitely love to charge. They are amazing in their ability to feel really surfy and playful as well as stiff and stable. They seem like they can handle anything you throw at them and they do it all well. Great job to 4FRNT for building such an awesome, unique product.
