The storm that blew in last night was quick and powerful. There was a considerable amount of lightning in the valley as the cold front passed through. The back yard picked up a quick 6″-8″ at in the next two hours. We all new that today was going to be a good day!
The official report was 11” of new snow, but I will unofficially tell you that this varied enormously based on aspect and slope angle. Some places were skiing more line 20-25″ while others were still all blown off from the strong winds that accompanied the storm. I had the best luck on west facing aspects that had some trees.
The lift lines looked mean this morning, but since patrol got the whole mountain open quickly everyone got spread out and the waits were mostly short. One lift with a longish line was Gad II….strange. There was good snow in mineral and people were hucking like crazy until the sun got clouded over around 10:30am. This snow should make things fun for all the Griswalds on the way for Presidents Day Weekend.
